Which cookies treeo.id uses, why, and how to change your choice at any time.

This page explains which cookies and similar storage TREEO Indonesia uses on https://treeo.id/, why we use them, and how you control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more broadly.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work the same way. They let a site remember something between visits — for example, that you have already answered the cookie banner, so you are not asked again on every page.

What we use

We keep this short, because we set very little.

Strictly necessary

These are required for the site to work and cannot be switched off. We rely on our legitimate interest under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR for these.

  • treeo_cookie_consent — records whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we do not ask again on every page. Stored in your browser's local storage, kept for 12 months. It never leaves your device and we cannot read it from our servers.

Analytics — only with your consent

These are not set unless you choose "Accept". If you decline, or dismiss the banner without choosing, they are never loaded at all. We rely on your consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR.

  • _ga — set by Google Analytics 4 to distinguish one visitor from another, so we can count how many people read an article. Kept for up to 2 years.
  • _ga_<container> — set by Google Analytics 4 to keep track of a single visit. Kept for up to 2 years.

We use analytics to understand which of our research articles readers find useful — which topics to write more about, and which pages confuse people. We do not use it for advertising, we do not build profiles of individuals, and we do not sell the data. Google may process this data outside your country; see Google's privacy policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies.
  • We do not sell or share your data with data brokers.
  • We do not track you across other websites.
  • We do not set analytics cookies before you agree.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it stops any further collection. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew.

You can also clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings, which resets your choice and makes the banner appear again. Most browsers also let you refuse cookies entirely, though doing so may stop parts of this or any other website working properly.

If you do nothing

If you close or ignore the banner without choosing, we treat that as a decline and load no analytics.
